Curriculum: Math in Focus

Math in Focus represents authentic Singapore math, draws on best practices from around the world, and highlights problem solving as the focus of mathematical learning.

In our Mathematics classes, children will explore concepts in math through hands-on exploration of objects (manipulatives). We will then proceed to representing these objects with images we draw and then finally move to the more abstract traditional algorithm. I believe we are all “mathy” people. Some people just see or think about math differently than others. I value all the different ways and support each student’s unique math journey. It is important that we work towards the most efficient method for solving mathematical problems as well as understand the deeper concepts which allow us fluidity and creativity in problem solving.
